The company’s engineering teams use innovative technologies for scale, performance and reliability. To expand its global engineering workforce and fast track product development, MessageMedia asked PYCOGroup to build its own overseas development center in Vietnam.

Since 2017, the Vietnam development center has grown to more than 40 team members, including Technical Leads, Fullstack Developers, QA Engineers and Product Owners. Following the best practices of Scrum and DevOps, each team is fully responsible for its part of the messaging platform. The teams design, implement, deploy and support new MessageMedia product features such as appointment reminders.

Our partnership with PYCOGroup has helped us to scale very quickly and achieve faster growth as a company. It enabled us to double the size of our development team in a year – successfully, safely, and confidently. We’ve accelerated our roadmap across different products, developed them to a high standard in a short amount of time, and delivered them into our customers’ hands as quickly as possible.

We have autonomous teams in Vietnam that take product development from end-to-end. They’ve built and maintained one of our flagship products – a web portal used by our global clients to engage and communicate with their customers. The teams have also been responsible for stand-out achievements that offer great benefits to our customers worldwide. For example, they developed a real-time conversational inbox that allows our business clients to have conversations with their customers rather than just sending messages. I have been really impressed by the speed of the delivery and the quality of their work.

One of the unexpected outcomes and joys of our partnership has been the two-way learning that has eventuated from it. Originally, I thought it might be a one-way path, but we’ve been introduced to tools and strategies to help track the metrics of delivery, engagement and performance – things that are done well at PYCOGroup. In turn, we’ve taken these learnings from our Ho Chi Minh City office and used them to build up our Melbourne team with successful results. We’re open to how things are done overseas, how they change and develop, and what we can learn.

The culture transfer has gone both ways. Our Vietnam team members seem to enjoy coming to our Melbourne office, and vice versa. In fact, many of our Australian team members who have been on holiday in Vietnam have visited the Ho Chi Minh City office because they like the environment, the culture. and enjoy catching up with their colleagues.
